Ground level patios are just as they sound….at ground level. Walls are not required in order to maintain a hillside or elevate the patio to reach a door height. These are the type of Patios that look great with sitting walls or elevate one step up into a fire pit area. So when deciding on what type of patio you want, if you do not need steps going up or down to the patio area this would be your option. If you want to see how you can accent your patio area please see “Accents”.
Elevated Patios or Verandas
Unlike ground level patios, raised patios or verandas require a little bit more work and materials. You have to build side walls and steps up to the area and backfill inside to get the desired patio level. If you want a patio to be elevated 2′ you would have to build a 2′ wall plus an 18″ sitting wall to surround the patio area totaling a 3′ 6″ wall. These types of patios/verandas really stand out and make quite the statement so make sure it’s built correctly the first time.
